The Anjali Ensemble: “Sailing to Fudaraku” – African Zen

May 21 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

| donation upon appreciation

We will be bringing the third night of this epic tale with magical soundscape to Bristol.

The Anjali Ensemble is a stripped-back version of the larger Anjali Orchestra. A group of exceptional multi-instrumentalists who share the twin passions of spiritual practice and world music. Drawing on influences from Japanese, Sufi, Celtic, African and other traditions, the music weaves a tapestry of sounds and songs that range from the deeply meditative to the joyfully celebratory.

Sailing to Fudaraku – The Story of African Zen:
Somewhere in the Southern Seas, there is an Island Paradise called Fudaraku. But although it is a geographically real place, it is so remote from Japan that the journey there is actually impossible. In other words, to set out for Fudaraku means to renounce one’s body. Two friends, consumed by an unreasonable yearning for the fabled paradise, have themselves cast adrift from somewhere on the Pacific coast of Japan, sealed in a cabin aboard a rudderless boat. This is their story…

The ensemble features:
Iwan Kushka – storyteller / mbira / oud
Adrian Freedman – shakuhachi / koto / percussion
Rowan Sterk – percussion / overtone singing
Ravi Kora – kora / guitar / overtone singing
