EXPLORING SOUND FOR BUTOH

Music on the
edge of silence…
movement on the
edge of stillness…

EXPLORING SOUND FOR BUTOH
with ADRIAN FREEDMAN
and JEANNIE DONALD-McKIM

During this workshop we will explore the
subtle connections between sound and
movement in the deep inner self… searching for the
source… the inner essential vibration…
body/cosmos/space/sound/spirit/transformation.

Adrian Freedman spent seven years in Japan studying
the ancient Zen flute shakuhachi… and creating music
for Japanese butoh dancers. He will bring his
collection of beautiful instruments from around the
world. No previous musical experience is necessary,
but if you already play an instrument you are welcome
to bring it.

Jeannie Donald-McKim studied butoh in Japan and
is the founder member of Café Reason Butoh Dance
Theatre. She uses imagery from the unconscious,
body-based sensation, and responses to the
environment, words and music to inspire her dance.
