Cultivating Inner Peace with Ch’an-based silent meditation & Japanese shakuhachi flute

Incorporating the spiritual essence of the nonviolent communication process

with Adrian Freedman & Ruud Baanders

Adrian plays the Japanese shakuhachi Zen flute which he spent 7 years in Japan studying. He also spent many years immersed in the sacred musical traditions of the Brazilian Amazon. Adrian has collaborated with many musicians around the world. He also plays the guitar and has his own collection of heartfelt devotional songs. His music comes from the edge of silence, crossing boundaries of time and culture to echo in the soul.

Ruud has been practicing Chan Buddhism for 20 years. He finds profound inspiration in the Bodhisattva Kuan Yin who symbolises infinite compassion. He was inspired in 2006 by Marshall Rosenberg, the originator of Nonviolent
Communication (NVC). Ruud leads NVC practice groups and runs NVC Introduction, Foundation and Deepening Trainings/Workshops in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, both public and in organisations.

Music in its highest form as a sacred art has the aim of developing a pure andtranscendental consciousness…..opening the heart, mind and spirit…Starting with an awareness of silence and breath, moving to mantra and melody,Adrian’s music works to open and refine the flow of pranic energy. He draws upon ideas from the world of Japanese Zen music, the Yoga of Sound and other sacred musical practices, as well as his rich experience as a creative composer and performer. He will work with his collection of musical instruments from around the world, and with the voice. Participants may bring their own instruments if they like. but the workshop is open to people of all levels of musical experience, including complete beginners.

Ruud will guide between the music a journey to self-compassion and inner peacedrawing from his experience with Ch’an based silent meditation and the spiritual essence of the Nonviolent Communication process. On this journey we will touchupon the relationship between inner- and outer peace and the role that compassion plays in this transformation process. There will be a tea break in silence in middle and an opportunity to share experiences at the end of the workshop.
